Revolution adaptive- automated combustion control

The new control unit, Revolution adaptive, recognizes the fuel quality used. This is done on the basis of the fuel water content, the heat capacity generated, the combustion temperature and the current grate occupancy. The use of the Revolution adaptive control unit ensures that a permanently low residual oxygen content is maintained in the flue gas, even with varying fuel quality, and that the target output is always achieved. The flue gas recovery and air distribution are automatically adjusted and the firebed is kept constant. This has a positive effect on efficiency, fuel consumption, emissions and wear.

Results of fuel switching in the Eschlikon district heating network –
UTSR-1600.42 moving grate combustion system

The values show the fuel switch from dry waste wood M 10 to moist forest residue M 35. The Revolution adaptive control unit regulates the change in fuel quality during operation without manual intervention.

  • The desired setpoint power is always achieved and the capacity is automatically adjusted
  • Fluctuations in the moisture content of fuel due to the change in fuel from waste wood M 10 to forest residue M 35
  • Residual oxygen is regulated to 6% and maintained.

Your advantages

Less work for operators

  • Automatic adjustment of the setpoint power output, regardless of fuel quality
  • No manual intervention to adjust the grate movement, air distribution and exhaust gas recirculation when changing the fuel

Optimized wood combustion process

  • Consistently low residual oxygen levels, resulting in higher efficiency of approx. 2.5% and lower fuel consumption
  • Reduced exhaust gas volume at the stack
  • Better partial-load behavior due to higher combustion temperature
  • Optimal combustion conditions and calm fuel bed, resulting in low emissions

Careful / low-wear plant operation

  • Optimized flue gas recovery
  • Combustion air supply optimally adapted to fuel quality
  • Optimal grate occupancy and grate advance

Retrofit with Revolution adaptive

The Revolution adaptive combustion control is available for UTSR hot water boilers with a capacity of 700 kW or more. It is used in combination with the latest version of the “PersonalTouch visio” system control.

Necessary equipment

  • “Personal Touch Revolution adaptive” control upgrade
  • Measuring system to determine the current moisture content of fuel
  • Detection system for grate occupancy (height and length of the ember bed) using light barriers
  • Heat meter for measuring output
  • Combustion chamber camera
  • Remote access via the Schmid portal
