Five-star Hotel Krallerhof in Leogang, Austria
Real experiences – impressive nature – quiet luxury
All this can be found at the Hotel Krallerhof. For four generations, the talents and values of the Altenberger family have flowed into the luxury hotel, making it an exceptional and unique place.
Respect and sustainability
For the Altenberger family, sustainability for the protection and preservation of nature is neither work nor a job – but a need. The topic of sustainability has always been a high priority and is always in focus when making decisions about new investments. The hotel covers almost half of its electricity needs
from photovoltaic systems. In addition to energy from air heat pumps, the waste heat from refrigeration production is also used to heat the pools. If the energy obtained is not sufficient to heat the water surfaces, the Krallerhof has been using wood briquettes from the timber construction company just 200 meters away for almost 20 years, which delivers them directly to the hotel’s biomass plant.
With the construction of another Schmid biomass plant, the hosts are proud to be almost energy self-sufficient. The installed system relies on environmental friendliness through a 10-meter-high electrostatic precipitator that electrically charges fine particles and efficiently filters them out.
The wood shavings needed for the heating plant are compressed and delivered from the neighboring sawmill. This means short transport distances, which in turn minimizes the environmental impact. The hotel’s commitment to supporting regional cycles, promoting biodiversity, planting 800 trees on the hotel grounds and building a spa that only needs to be heated for a total of three months is just a small part of what it does.
Energy supply with wood
With the Schmid biomass boiler that went into operation in November 2023, the “Krallerhof” ensures the energy supply for the Spa ATMOSPHERE, including the 50-meter infinity pool and the existing wellness area Refugium, the 124 hotel rooms, the separate restaurant KrallerAlm, four staff houses and two private houses – a total of around 30,000 m² of heated space.
The needs of the hotel
The UTSR-2000 visio moving grate furnace was easily integrated into the existing heating system and adapts perfectly to individual needs and varying fuels. Thanks to the modern control interface and remote access, the system can be easily operated and optimized from anywhere.
The implementation of this project was particularly challenging due to the time pressure. The scheduling of all the work and the installation had to be tightly coordinated to ensure that the fully booked hotel was reliably supplied with heat in time for the start of the winter season.
