SaveEnergy-flue gas condenser

The SaveEnergy flue gas condenser is a highly efficient system that recovers the sensible and latent heat from contaminated flue gas. The heat from the flue gas is extracted via injected process water. The sum of all water drop surfaces forms the heat exchanger. This results in heat exchanger surfaces the size of several football pitches. The water droplets are constantly reforming. The SaveEnergy heat exchanger (water droplets) can neither become dirty nor corroded. This results in low-maintenance and robust operation and sets the highest standards in terms of availability and durability.

The technology in detail

The SaveEnergy flue gas condenser recovers the sensible and latent heat from the flue gas. The heat from the flue gas is extracted via the injected process water. The surfaces of the many small water droplets act as a mechanical heat exchanger. The heat from the flue gases is absorbed by the liquid and transferred to the heat consumer (e.g. return line of the heating network) via a plate heat exchanger. The large heat exchanger surface (the sum of all the droplet surfaces) guarantees a high level of efficiency in heat recovery. The flue gas is cooled to 2–3 °C above the temperature of the heat consumer. Since there is no mechanical heat exchanger in the flue gas, the SaveEnergy condenser is not susceptible to fouling.

When the temperature drops below the dew point, the water in the flue gas condenses. The condensate is pH-neutralized and cleaned of solids by the water treatment system. Only the cleaned condensate is discharged into the sewer system. This means that the SaveEnergy condenser does not require any fresh water.

By intensively injecting process water into the flue gas, the SaveEnergy flue gas condenser performs the function of a flue gas scrubbing system. The inertial forces cause the coarse dust particles in the flue gas to bind to the surface of the liquid. These are then removed to the water treatment system via the process water. The pre-cleaning of the flue gas from the coarse dust particles is crucial for the efficient functioning of the SaveEnergy wet electrostatic precipitator, which separates the small dust particles from the flue gas downstream.
