This conviction was the basis upon which the South Tyrolean climate hotel Cyprianerhof was established. The hotel’s philosophy has been based on sustainability since it was established in 1988. The climate hotel was awarded the South Tyrolean environmental seal long before everyone started to talk about sustainability.

“Careful use of natural resources in all areas is just as much a matter of course for us as the use of local products from local farmers and suppliers for the kitchen”, says owner Martin Damian.

Thermal energy from forest management wood in the region

Thermal energy has been generated at the Cyprianerhof using a Schmid wood chip heating system since 1999. The reliable and balanced combustion of wood from sustainable and regional forestry and the automatic ash removal were already convincing arguments for using the Schmid furnace.

 “I was surprised that the Schmid boiler achieved such outstanding efficiency with different fuels. The automatic ash removal is also excellent”, tells us a delighted Martin Damian. “For these reasons and knowing that Schmid boilers are at the technological cutting edge, Schmid was once again our choice for our replacements and extensions.”

“The automation and the remote maintenance are something that we really appreciate. The heating system can be wonderfully optimized using the remote maintenance, and you can rely on the service engineers at all times. That is priceless as far as we are concerned,” continues Martin Damian.

New heating center – additional capacity

The new building was equipped with a second, more powerful boiler, a UTSR-450 visio, and a bigger wood chip silo. The silo is now operated using four moving floor rods. Fortunately, and in the spirit of sustainability, the existing furnace and the two existing moving floor rods were able to be re-used. The existing UTSR-240 was upgraded to the latest state of technology with automatic boiler pipe cleaning, ignition and a controller update.

The 100 or so rooms and the pools of the Cyprianerhof have CO₂-neutral heating. The energy requirement is supported by a solar power system. Electricity that is 100 % green is also generated and used in the power plant using hydroelectric power.
